An audiologic assessment is a comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluation for adults and children. Before testing begins, the hearing specialist will ask questions about your medical and hearing history. Next, the practitioner will look into your ears using an otoscope, to check for anything in the ear canal that might affect test results.
Hearing assessment typically involves pure-tone testing, speech testing, middle ear testing, auditory brainstem response (ABR) and otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). A complete assessment takes approximately 1 hour.
Hearing evaluation can take place at any age. Pediatric evaluations by qualified pediatric audiologists are available for young children and infants.
